Record Store Day

Record Store Day is every vinyl collectors dream. But, you do not have to be a big collector to enjoy this one-day a year event. It is a great way to celebrate and support independent record stores everywhere. Plus, who doesn’t love first edition records and special releases? In preparation for my visit to Nashville’s famous Grimey’s record store this year, I took a look at the 2022 RSD list of releases.

Here are the Coffee and Grooves top picks!

RSD Release Picks

Foo Fighters - "Making A Fire (Mark Ronson Re-Version)" b/w "Chasing Birds (Preservation Hall Jazz Band Re-Version)"

I have been lucky enough to grab a couple of Foo Fighters record day releases in the past, so I am very excited that there will be a new one this year. It will feature two new tracks “Re-Versioned” by some of their musical friends, including Dap-Kings, the Budos Band, Ben Jaffe, Charlie Gabriel, Brandon Lewis and more.

Miles Davis - What It Is: Montreal 7/7/83

The Doors - L.A. Woman

The Cranberries - Remembering Dolores

This ‘RSD First’ release is a compilation of songs from the Cranberries’ discography, and includes 3 bonus tracks: “The Rebels,” “Astral Projections,” and “Warchild.” This album seems like the perfect way to honor Dolores’ talent and appreciate the band’s many incredible songs throughout the years. Out of all of the RSD releases, this record is definitely at the top of my list.

Black Pumas - Black Pumas [Collector's Edition 7" Box Set]

The Doors - L.A. Woman

Paul McCartney/St. Vincent - Women and Wives

The Lumineers - Brightside: Bonus Tracks

‘Brightside’ has become one of my favorite Lumineers’ albums, so this was without a doubt a top pick. The record will not only feature acoustic performances of “Brightside” (my favorite from the album) and “A.M Radio, but will include a new track "Little Sound” and a cover of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven.” There is so much to look forward to with this release.

Joni Mitchell - Blue Highlights

Stevie Nicks - Bella Donna

The Pixies - Live at Coachella 2004

Prince - The Gold Experience

Lou Reed - I'm So Free: The 1971 RCA Demos

Taylor Swift - the lakes

These recordings are so raw and are a great showcase of the emotion behind the Grammy winning album. I can’t wait to hear these songs on vinyl for the first time, and I know that many fans are just as excited to get their hands on this ‘RSD First’ release.

My Morning Jacket - Live From RCA Studio A (Jim James Acoustic)

The Rolling Stones - More Hot Rocks (Big Hits & Fazed Cookies) [50th Anniversary]

Patti Smith - Curated By Record Store Day

U2 - A Celebration (40th Anniversary)
