Chicago Coffee

“Everyone should believe in something. I believe I will have another coffee.”

Chicago has always been one of my favorite cities. The food, art and of course coffee are some of the best. I had the joy of visiting again with my friend Carly who may love the city more than I do. In our five-day long stay, I enlisted her on my mission to visit as many coffee shops as we could. After trying all of the places below, I can confidently say that Chicago knows their coffee.

Hero Coffee Bar

This was not my first time going to Hero Coffee Bar, and it definitely will not be my last. Disguised in an alleyway, this coffee shop is a hidden gem for those first-time visitors. The coffee sign and aesthetic appearance has made it an iconic spot for pictures, but it is truly memorable for the quality of their coffee and food. Dare I say, it might have been the best coffee shop we . The oat milk cappuccino was perfect and had me wishing I lived in Chicago, because honestly I would be there everyday. Also, why has no one told me to try cream cheese on an egg and cheese bagel? Their breakfast sandwich was to die for. I still think about it to this day. At the time we went, they were only offering window service, but we did not mind at all. It was the perfect day to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather. This coffee shop gets a five out of five stars in my book.

Bae Coffee Company

Bae’s Coffee Company will have you stepping back in time with its retro feel; disco balls, pink velvet seats, neon signs and all. The decor made this place such a fun environment, but it was also one of the most welcoming coffee shops I have ever visited. My friend and I could not get over how sweet the staff was to everyone. You get the impression that they really loved their jobs. We snagged a seat near the front window to do some people watching and enjoy our beverages. It was the perfect amount of coffee. I always enjoy my cappuccino on the smaller side. Overall, this was for sure a highlight of the trip and a place that everyone should try if they are in Chicago.

Two Shades Coffee

Two Shades Coffee had a very homey vibe and is perfect if you are looking for a place to work from. The coffee was a little on the stronger side, but was fine by me. I needed the extra caffeine boost. We hung out for about an hour planning the rest of our weekend and enjoyed checking out more of the neighborhood it was located in. My honest opinion is that it was not the best coffee I have ever had, but I might go back to try again if I am in the area.

Goddess and The Baker

This coffee spot really had it all. The amount of creative drinks and baked goods seemed endless, I was almost overwhelmed when deciding what to get. I am a cappuccino girl through and through, but I knew I had to venture outside of my comfort zone. How can you not try something called the Salted Caramel Goddess that is made with a homemade sauce, or a Bourbon Praline Latte with crushed pecans on top? The coffee was a tad sweeter than I am used to, but worth the try. After final deliberation, I would recommend the caramel goddess as the perfect seasonal drink for Fall. And when it comes to their store… let’s just say I have never wanted a coffee mug more (see gallery below).
