Coffee & Vinyl: The Perfect Pairings
You just sat down to play a new record or an album that’s in your usual rotation. You might have heard of alcohol and music parings, but what about the perfect coffee beverage to enjoy during your listening session? There just might be the right one for each genre. Let’s dive into some great coffee and vinyl pairings!
Classic Rock
The Rolling Stones, ‘Exile On Main St.’
Classic Rock is a cold brew kind of genre. You may add a splash of milk, but rock and roll is all about taking a walk on the wild side.
Folk/Acoustic
Gregory Alan Isakov, ‘Evening Machines’
If you are listening to Folk or Acoustic music on vinyl, I recommend drinking a caramel macchiato. This might sound specific, but I personally think this chill genre calls for something that is warm and cozy. Trust me. You should give it a try.
Jazz
Ellas Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong, ‘Cheek to Cheek’
There is just something about Ella and Louis singing “A Foggy Day” that makes me want to drink an espresso martini. I have always attributed espresso to a sense of sophistication, and what genre could be more sophisticated than Jazz. So, next time you wind down to some Ella Fitzgerald or Miles Davis on a Sunday night, try this delicious martini.
Country
Dolly Parton, ‘Jolene’
This one seemed like a no-brainer. If you are listening to the classics like Dolly Parton, Glen Campbell or Hank Williams, a honey bourbon latte is the way to go. These have become popular in coffee shops, but it is pretty easy to make at home. All you need to do is make your usual latte, adding the honey bourbon syrup before you pull the espresso. Then mix together with a spoon and add your steamed milk. Top with cinnamon and you are ready to enjoy.
Pop
Billie Eilish, ‘Happier Than Ever’
On Saturdays when I am doing work around the apartment, I tend to play some Pop records to get the energy going while making an iced shaken espresso. This drink is a great way to get those extra shots of espresso in (less is not more in this situation) and wake yourself up to enjoy some hits. The iced shaken espresso has become quite a trend recently, and I recommend it to anyone that is looking for a lot of caffeine without the other added stuff.
R&B
Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak), ‘Silk Sonic’
The genre combining rhythm and blues contains a lot of elements, from soul to funk and jazz. I always find that my mood is affected when listening to R&B, with the way the music captures so much emotion. With that in mind, I believe a lavender latte would be the perfect pairing. Lavender is known for its calming and soothing properties, making this sweet flavor a great addition to your coffee and the easy-going vibes.
Alternative
The Black Keys, ‘Brothers’
Cortado has a little edge to it like a regular espresso, but has equal parts steamed milk to dilute it. It is a great coffee to drink if you do not want something to sweet, but still want to enjoy the espresso flavor. This smooth blend would pair well with an Alternative album, seeing as the genre gives you a mix of styles and elements.
