Records You Need This Fall
Fall is right around the corner, and what better way to prepare than to purchase some records that will be a great addition to the cozy season. Here are my top picks along with my favorite songs from each album.
Billie Holiday, ‘Recital’
The song “Autumn In New York” is reason enough to add this record to your collection. There is nothing like listening to a great Jazz record in the Fall, and Billie Holiday’s album ‘Recital’ takes the cake.
Lord Huron, ‘Strange Trails’
This entire album will make you want to take a roadtrip to view the beautiful Fall foliage. It is perfect if you are looking for an upbeat folk/rock record to enjoy this season.
Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, ‘ella & louis’
This album will make you wish it was a rainy Fall day, so that all you have to do is sit inside and listen to the amazing duo that is Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong on vinyl.
Gregory Alan Isakov, ‘Evening Machines’
If there is one artist that embodies the feeling of Fall, it is singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov. I return to his music each year, with a particular love for the album ‘Evening Machines.’ The songs are haunting yet beautiful at the same time, and showcase Isakov’s talented poetic writing that will transport you somewhere else.
Iron & Wine, ‘Beast Epic’
“Call It Dreaming” is what pulled me into this record. The stripped-down acoustic arrangements and vivid storytelling make this a unique Iron & Wine record and my favorite for the Autumn season.
Stevie Nicks, ‘Bella Donna’
There is something magical about Stevie Nick’s and this record. I always end up attributing it to October and not-so-secretly want to live out my ‘Practical Magic’ dream of dancing around to this album in the kitchen while making midnight margaritas. If you know, you know.
Mumford and Sons, ‘Babel’
Mumford and Sons’ second album is a mixture of playful/upbeat music and somber melodies, but it is truly one of my favorite works by the band.
Fleet Foxes, ‘Fleet Foxes’
Fleet Foxes’ debut album is the ideal folk record for this time of year. Enough said.
